Function

The County Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer in Marion County. The office handles felony crimes, select misdemeanor and traffic prosecutions. These cases include murder, rape, robbery, gang-related crimes, juvenile offenses, care and treatment actions, child in need of care, criminal appeals, select traffic offenses, and many others.

The County Attorney does NOT offer free legal advice. The County Attorney only handles criminal matters as listed above, not personal or civil matters such as small claims, lawsuits, property disputes, etc. For questions regarding those matters please contact a private attorney or the County Counselor.
