Noxious Weed

This County office is charged with enforcing the State Noxious Weed Law within the County boundaries.

The Kansas Legislature has declared 12 weeds as noxious. They are:

The four weeds listed in bold type above are the ones currently infesting and considered noxious in Marion County. Leafy spurge and hoary cress have been found and treated in isolated spots and are being monitored for re-growth.

Chemicals available at the Noxious Weed Office are for the treatment of noxious weeds only. All sales are final. When purchasing chemicals at the Weed Office, bring your checkbook or cash (we cannot accept credit cards), the name of the owner, operator, applicator, legal description of the land, name of weed to be treated and per acre amount of application.  If you wish to purchase Tordon 22K, you must have a valid private or commercial applicators license to purchase.  We will verify that it is current when you come to purchase this chemical.  If you are having someone besides one of the cooperatives or chemical spray companies, that person with the applicator license must be present when the purchase is made as they have to sign invoice at that time.  NO EXCEPTIONS!

Cost Share Certificates are also available from this office. These act as discount coupons for purchase of approved chemicals from chemical dealers. These certificates shall be issued prior to the chemical purchase.  We also work with the local coops and spray companies, including aerial spray companies, to provide the cost share certificates after the acreage has been sprayed to get an accurate amount of chemicals used. 

Before issuing a cost share certificate, the weed office needs to know the name of the landowner and operator, name of the applicator, type of weed infestation, legal description of the ground, per acre rate of chemical application, and number of acres to be treated.

The K-State Research and Extension Bookstore publishes a Chemical Weed Control Guide for field crops, range land, pastures & noncropland.  It includes general information about herbicide usage, calibration of sprayers, herbicide premixes as well as herbicides that can be used on certain weeds and trees.Noxious weed information starts on page 139 and information for trees starts on page 131.  2019 Chemical Weed Guide
